Each year, the Sunshine Coast “Smashers” supports over 100 players in our local team based league competition where we run fixtures out of our Clubhouse – the Caloundra Sharks Rugby League Football Club and various pubs and clubs from Caloundra to Tewantin.
We are part of the Queensland Eight Ball Federation (QEBF) and we are very well known for our team spirit and welcoming attitude to new players of all skill levels, including beginners!
There are two main fixtures over the year, our Summer Season League which runs from February to July and our Main Season League which runs August to early December. Each league runs for approximately 16 weeks (depending on the number of teams entered) and each team consists of 4-6 players. We also host a range of day tournaments including our Annual Drawn Doubles, 9Ball and inter-town challenges such as the SC vs Gympie Challenge.
League games are held on a Monday night from 7pm, based on a home and away season. Our Main Season involves 5 rounds of single frame games. The Summer Season includes 4 rounds of Single frame games and 2 rounds of Scotch Doubles games (the scotch doubles are a fantastic way to learn and develop your skills. This format was put in place with the intention of pairing newer players with more experienced players to encourage and develop the skills of those who are new to the game – have a chat with some of our newer players, there are some great stories of people who have only been playing for a season or two and have already been invited to play for our Representative teams!)
If you are interested in playing our great game, please contact us, or pop down to Sharkies RLFC on a Monday night and check it all out! We are always happy to see new faces - and don’t worry! Even if you don’t know all the rules, or we seem a little intimidating, I can assure you we don’t bite and we are all here to help you out! We look forward to seeing you!
P.S. Are you a junior or a parent looking for something different? Our association supports juniors in both our league night and through our junior clinics. SCCS is a registered sporting association that encourages a very professional, competitive and strategical game in a family-friendly environment (not the traditional pub-based game that used to be). All of our committee members hold current QLD issued Working with Children Blue Cards and we also host 2 professional Eight Ball coaches and the QLD Junior State team coaches.
Through the affiliations with the Queensland Eight Ball Federation (QEBF) and the Australian Eight Ball Federation (AEBF), the Sunshine Coast Cue Sports participates in multiple representative tournaments held throughout the year. This includes the Annual SEQ City vs Country where we invite our registered members to trial for spots in our A Grade, B Grade, C grade and Ladies representative teams. This event runs over the Labour Day long weekend and attracts hundreds of players. Our affiliations also offer players the opportunity to trial in ranking tournaments for places in the Queensland State teams (Mens, Ladies, Juniors) who then play in a national event.
